The study analyzes issues related to the establishment of Mariupol State University as a Center of humanitarian education and science in the Noth Pryazovya (the North-ern Azov region). The prerequisites for the creation of the Mariupol Humanities CollegeatDonetsk State University, as well as the Mariupol Humanities Institute of DonSU, are highlighted. In the article, considerable attention is paid to the study of the Mariupol State Uni-versity’s place in the development of Ukrainian-Greek educational, scientific, cultural ties, various contacts in the humanitarian sphere, various aspects of Hellenistic studies at the institute are analyzed, historical and philological aspects of teachers’, post-graduate students’ and students’ studies are indicated.

У дослідженні аналізуються питання, пов’язані зі становленням Маріупольського державного університету як Центру гуманітарної освіти і науки в Північному Приазов’ї. Висвітлено передумови створення Маріупольського гуманітарного коледжу Донецького державного університету, а також Маріупольського гуманітарного інституту ДонДУ. У статті значну увагу приділено вивченню місця Маріупольського державного університету в розвитку українсько-грецьких освітніх, наукових, культурних зв’язків, різноманітних контактів у гуманітарній сфері, проаналізовано різні аспекти елліністичних студій в інституті. , зазначені історико-філологічні аспекти навчання викладачів, аспірантів і студентів.
